Light Weight (60lb) Combat Bot
Design: Two wheel
drive with hinged front wedge. Wheels are large enough to
allow for inverted drive. Plan to eventually put an actuator
(either electric or pneumatic) on the front wedge to make it a
lifter/flipper.
Attack Tactic: Wedge under
the robot and drive them hard into the walls. With the
addition of a lifter/flipper actuator, I will also attempt to invert
my opponents.
Current Status - damaged, but intend to
re-build
The last fights at the 2004 RFL Nationals
destroyed the robot to the point it no longer functions, but I fully
intend to rebuild this robot again.
Fight History
Las Vegas Street Fight #6.5 (Feb 2004)
- I was a good friend with the organizer of the LVSF events and was
invited to build a LW robot and compete with 4 other robots to make
a sample video of an "underground" themed event as a
concept for a possible TV show. The build for this event was
quick. This lead to not only some bad welds, but I ended up
using the other non-treated shaft that came from Blue
Vixen. So in the first match, I lost control of one of my
wheels and had an outrigger break off, causing the bot to bottom out
and be effectively knocked out. Sure it was the first out, but
it was also the inspiration on how the general look of my new MW
WulfRam was going to eventually be designed as.
Las Vegas Street Fight #7 (June 2004) -
Alright, another survivor style event. After the issues
encountered at the mini-LVSF event, I decided to beef up some of the
welds, especially the outriggers that the drive axles were supported
with. Well, I swept my survivor bracket all the way to the
finals until I met a flipper robot that caused me to be inverted (at
the time, I only had 5" wheels but a 6" tall robot)
Overall results: 3-2 - 2nd place finish
and qualification for the 2004 RFL Nationals Event
2004 RFL Nationals (Oct 2004) - Since
I got flipped at LVSF 7, I decided to raise up my drive motors and
run with the 8" diameter wheels left over from Blue
Vixen. While I only won one of my matches, my two losses
were VERY exciting matches that was a blast for the audience, so it
was a big blast. Plus, I took the Magic
Carpet with me and people got a kick out of seeing that thing in
action as well.
The Team O-Town boys were cool enough to film their fights and post them on their
web site. You can
find their videos from this event, including Ground Zero vs The
Coyote here.
You can also find some additional videos by the Team Mad Overlord /
AnimEgo guys here
